OPC 28 -- FAQs/Program components

What is OPC 28?

  • Celebrations that keep the 'Spirit of the Games' alive in Host Cities (former and future) worldwide.

  • Global, biennial, non-political, athlete/volunteer-driven, and PEACE-themed events,  programs, and activities in Host Cities (former and future) of the Olympic, Paralympic, and Youth Games.

Who is OPC 28 for?

  • For you, everyone, all humanity - The Olympic & Paralympic Games and ideals belong to the entire world! You do not need to be an Olympian or Paralympian to join OPC and become a Host City Team Champion of PEACE.

  • Supporters from anywhere in the world can join any Host City Team -- and join more than one team! -- if it's a city where they lived, competed, worked, volunteered ... or simple love!

How do I join/support OPC 28?

Join/create a Host City Team here!

  • We are now building Host City Teams, events, sponsors, and PEACE partners in every Games' site (former and awarded) with just a few simple guidelines and advice:

  1. Join/create a Host City Team here as an individual or organization!
  2. If you have questions or suggestions - Great! We will be conducting Zoom Calls with stakeholders in each Host City in the weeks and months ahead. Reach out to OPC 28 Team (Charlie) to ask to schedule or join a call.
  3. Become a Host City Team Champion! We need folks to help create and lead local teams (as well as regional organizing committees - see list of Cities on Home Page). Please reach out to the OPC 28 Team (Charlie) if you are interested and willing.
  4. Register your Host City Team! Once you have identified other local Champions, please reach out to  the OPC 28 Team (Charlie) to register your team's effort, get assistance, and brainstorm ideas.

  • As with all OLY/PLY dreams, we start small and dream big, growing into something amazing that inspires the world!

  • BTW: When you join OPC 28 you will automatically be added to our global virtual PEACE Mural!

When do OPC 28 Celebrations take place?

  • The cornerstone event - relighting the flames - takes place  on the first day of the biennial  IOC/UN-sponsored 'Olympic Truce Period' for each new Games -- which traditionally takes place 1 week before the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games.

  • OPC 28 kicks-off at LA 28 on Friday July 7, 2028. OPC 30 will start on Olympic Truce Day for the French Alps 2030 Games; OPC 32  before the Brisbane 2032 Games, and so on for all upcoming Games.

  • However... OPC Celebrations and programs can run before, during, and after the official Olympic Truce Period -- depending on the needs, interests, and resources of the Host City Team and local partners.

What are OPC Add-on Programs (events and activities)?

Host City Teams determine the scope of local events and activities based on available resources. We encourage these events and activities to take place around the time of the flame lighting (on 'Olympic Truce Day' one week before the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games)...but they can also be on-going, during, or even after the Games.

Feel free to contact the OPC 28 Team (Charlie) to discuss local ideas.

Add-on programs (events, activities, venues) could include:

  • Partnership opportunities (PEACE, media, school/youth, and sponsorship organizations)
  • Athlete-led gatherings and discussion groups
  • PEACE/Torch runs or walks
  • City Hall Proclamation readings
  • Museum/School/Youth Club Presentations
  • Training Center/Sport Club Open Houses
  • Parade of Nations celebrations with Youth, Schools, Clubs
  • Release of symbolic doves or lanterns
  • Music Concerts
  • School/Youth PEACE Poster & Poetry Competitions

What are the OPC 28 PEACE PRINCIPLES?

Our movements' core Values, Mission, and Vision/Ideals constitute the foundation of Olympic & Paralympic Spirit as well as a framework for ethical, productive, and healthy sport and life alike. These are expressed in our OPC Proclamation.
